9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

In assignment 7 and 8, I have identified how some elderlies have unwanted items in their household that they are willing to sell, but, cannot do so due to technological illiteracy. I then interviewed five different individuals who I believed should have this need, but either does not have this need or does not feel this need is necessarily true. A common point among some of the interviewees was that some believe that making transactions in-person is a much safer option than transacting through online platforms. I brought up the case of how transactions online are very secure, and websites will always incorporate a platform to prevent information leak. However, one brought up the rare occasion that it will happen, and thus he avoids performing online transactions. Another interviewee also told me the possible hassle that online trading may potentially have, emphasizing customer satisfaction. She believes that it is best for a person to see the item in-person, examines if he/she is willing to purchase and decide. By posting online, there may be aspects that the customer did not consider which may lead to return demand- thus the main hassle. An interesting point I’ve learned is that my potential customers may not be looking to sell, but rather trying to get rid of their unwanted items. Whether it be storing in third-party storage or simply donating it, as long they are rid of, it meets their need.

  1. Tommy,
I like your idea and feel that this is an interesting idea. The information you gained from the interviews seems to be very detailed and provided important information to your idea. I think it is interesting that you discovered the reason that many people were wanting to get rid of items was to simply do that and not necessarily make money. Also your graphic is effective and explains the boundaries well. Overall good post and I think that you are on the right track with gaining information.

  2. Dear Tommy,
You make an interesting point about older people who may have the same need you described, but may still not want to try your service. While it is unfortunate that some older people prefer traditional methods they are more accustomed to, there could still be a way for you to reach that audience if you somehow combine older traditional aspects of selling with the new electronic methods. As far as the quality of your chart I was really impressed, and I think the presentation is great.

  3. Hi Tommy,

First of all, I love how you pointed out that there's people in your target audience, older individuals, who might not seem interested in your product. I believe a key ideal to install in all young entrepreneurs is to be realistic with your products and knowing the boundaries of them, and I feel like you laid this out very well in this assignment. Good job and keep up the good work!

  4. Dear Tommy,
Your idea is great but I feel there are many programs and companies already like this. Many people can take lessons or other types of tutorials to understand how to sell items. The idea is great, but I think it has already been used. Your table organizes the company down very el though!

  5. Hey Tommy! As always I really enjoyed reading through your research and noting your results. As an entrepreneur I feel that it's crucial to be flexible and change your opportunity to fit your prototypical customer's needs, which is exactly what you realized and went with. I think that not only is it significant that you were able to recognize this change through the interviews, but also implement it into your original idea! Well done!
